Why I wasn't in work today. . .
My school district didn't close today. I had to call out. They had rain, we didn't. Many power lines and phone lines down. I am writing this from my in-laws house, everything is fine here. We haven't had electricity for 27 hours at this point, or phone service for the last 12. The phone company doesn't believe that there is a problem, they think that its in our house. Morons.
These pictures are not in any real order, but they give you a SMALL taste of what the area looks like. I have seen areas hit by hurricanes and tornadoes, and this is much the same.
This tree was on Sportsman Road one of the three roads that lead to our development. There were at least 12 down that crossed the road. This road is only 2.2 miles from beginning to end.
Another tree along Sportsman Rd. Here you can see the power/phone lines under the tree. Maybe I should e-mail these to Verizon. Nah, they still wouldn't believe it.
A work crew on Mountain Rd. one of the other two roads. This one had a lot of trees down in one spot, but we didn't want to hold up the crews, so no pictures of those.
Another one on Sportsman Rd. This was a 11 am, imagine at 7:00 am.
This is the hill which leads out of my development at 7:30 this morning. Thats a solid sheet of ice about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in spots. I did not attempt that hill until three hours later after the sun had hit it and it had been salted. By 1:30 pm it was dry pavement.
My driveway at 7:00 am. Again it was dry by 1:30 pm.
The street in front of my house early this morning. With all the trees down we didn't try to go anywhere, and we would not have been able to, all of the roads were closed by trees and limbs. By early afternoon we could get out.
As of this writing we are planning on spending the night here at my in-laws. They have heat, and water, and phones. hope the hermit crabs don't freeze!
